Jeffrey Schecter founded Jeffrey S. Schecter & Associates, P.C. in 1993, forming a law firm committed and exclusively dedicated to matrimonial and family law issues. He is recognized as a highly skilled advocate, one who zealously, aggressively, justly and fairly represents the needs and rights of his clients throughout the greater metropolitan New York area. Mr. Schecter has been lead counsel on cases involving significant equitable distribution claims and custody and visitation disputes, having successfully litigated complex matters before Courts through the State of New York, including in Nassau County, Suffolk County, Westchester County, and the City of New York. He possesses extensive experience in both litigating and negotiating complex matters in all areas of family law and matrimonial practice, including, divorce, custody, visitation, relocation of a child's residence, parental alienation, spousal support, child support, prenuptial and post-nuptial agreements, enforcement of visitation and support orders, support modification proceedings, grandparents' visitation, valuations of professional licenses and practices, business valuations, expert retention and fees, collection of counsel fees, and contempt proceedings .
Mr. Schecter's clients have included accomplished people in the fields of law, medicine, finance, business, real estate, entertainment, and public service. He also regularly represents their spouses. A successful litigator in the courtroom, Mr. Schecter is guided by a dual path approach to litigation, one which recognizes the need to litigate cases which cannot be resolved without a judicial determination, and one which strives to settle those which can. Mr. Schecter's negotiation skills are exemplary and are evidenced by his demonstrated ability to resolve the most complex of matters outside of the courtroom.
He has appeared and argued before the New York State Appellate Division on a myriad of issues. The New York Law Journal has published a number of Mr. Schecter's case decisions as being noteworthy to other matrimonial attorneys.
Prior to forming Jeffrey S. Schecter & Associates, Mr. Schecter was a founding partner at Farber & Schecter, Esqs, from 1984 to 1993.
Mr. Schecter is a graduate of the State University of New York at Binghamton, where he received a B.S. degree, with honors, in Political Science and Philosophy. Mr. Schecter received his Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law in 1984. He is admitted to practice law in New York State(1985), the Eastern District of New York (1985) and the Southern District of New York (1987). He is also a member of the American Inns of Court, New York Chapter; New York State Bar Association, Family Law Section; American Bar Association, Family Law Section; Nassau County Bar Association, Matrimonial Section; and Nassau County Women's Bar Association.
