Joey Michaels
Since joining Jeffrey S. Schecter & Associates, P.C., Joey Michaels'
practice has been dedicated to all aspects of matrimonial and family law
litigation, including custody, visitation, equitable distribution, child
and spousal support, enforcement proceedings, modification proceedings,
and family offense proceedings. Ms. Michaels routinely implements a strategic
prosecution or defense of all clients' rights, whether it is regarding
issues of custody or liability on debts. Ms. Michaels' approach to
client advocacy has resulted in favorable decisions and settlements for
her clients.
Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Michaels practiced in several areas of the
law in addition to matrimonial and family law, including civil and commercial
litigation, Article 81 guardianship proceedings, and Appellate practice.
Ms. Michaels was instrumental in the negotiation and settlement of complex
litigation matters for both corporate and individual clients. In one Ms.
Michaels is also certified under Part 36 of the Rules of the Chief Judge
as a guardian ad litem, court evaluator and attorney for alleged incapacitated
persons, which operate in Article 81 guardianship proceedings.
Ms. Michaels obtained her Juris Doctor from New York Law School and is
admitted to practice before the courts in both New York and New Jersey.
Ms. Michaels obtained her Bachelors of Arts in Forensic Psychology from
John Jay College of Criminal Justice, where she graduated magna cum laude.
Ms. Michaels is a member of the Nassau County Bar Association, the Nassau
County Women's Bar Association, the New York State Bar Association,
and the American Bar Association.
Ms. Michael was selected as a Super Lawyers-Rising Star for the years 2014-2019,
and as one of the Super Lawyers Top Women Attorneys in the Metro Area-Rising
Star for the years 2015-2020.
